The foundation works to support
local law enforcement agencies, and is an annual sponsor of the MI-COPS Euchre
Tournament and hosts a scholarship at a local high school for graduates going
into a criminal justice program. Long term, the foundation is working
towards building an animal shelter in the local area. Jessica's love for
animals showed in her daily life. She visited the shelter in Hazel Park
either before or after work, as well as worked to place the abandoned animals in
good homes. To raise money, fundraisers are held throughout the year.
Events have included bowling, sale of tee shirts and sweatshirts, lanyards and
an annual benefit at Kelly's On The Eastside.
In 2003, the
foundation voted to purchase the house in Hazel Park where Jessica's life ended.
While hoping to raise money for the foundation, the board also wanted to change
the environment for the families in the neighborhood. Once renovation is
complete, the home will be sold with the profits going to the foundation. For
2004, the main fundraiser is a raffle for a custom Orange
County Chopper.
